What is HTML?

HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. It is the document format used by the World Wide Web.

Ordinary text documents can be converted to html by "tagging". Tagging is a process where you would put certain directives in a document to give a special meaning to some words. For instance, you may use the

directive to indicate the from here on the text that would follow is bold.
